SRH Team Overview
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) became a franchise in 2013, taking over from Deccan Chargers, representing the city of Hyderabad until 2012.
Although the Sunrisers were a new franchise, they inherited almost the same squad from the previous season. They retained Kumar Sangakkara as the skipper for the 2013 season but then changed the position quickly and had four skippers by the end of the 2014 season.

In 2015, David Warner took over captaincy from Shikhar Dhawan. Despite the team finishing sixth, he didn’t meet the same fate as his predecessor. It eventually proved to be a slice of luck as SRH went on to win the trophy in 2016, and in 2017, they finished third. Warner won the Orange Cap, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar got the Purple Cap. In between, SRH also acquired the services of Afghanistan duo Rashid Khan and Mohammed Nabi.ย
In 2018, Warner received an international ban for his role in the Sandpapergate scandal. The captaincy changed hands. The franchise handed over the armband to Kane Williamson. He led the side brilliantly in Warner’s absence and took them to the final, where they lost to the Chennai Super Kings. The Kiwi led the team to top-four finishes in the 2019 and 2020 seasons. The five years were one of their golden periods.ย
Two stalwarts left the franchise at the end of the 2021 season. Warner left after being stripped of the captaincy midway into the 2021 edition. Rashid Khan also left SRH, where he made a name for himself in the global T20 arena.ย
Regarding recent performances, SRH has underperformed heavily, finishing eighth for two consecutive years – 2021 and 2022. The Hyderabad-based franchise finished at the bottom of the table in the 2023 season.
Regarding recent performances, SRH has underperformed heavily, finishing eighth for two consecutive yearsโ2021 and 2022. The Hyderabad-based franchise finished at the bottom of the table in the 2023 season. However, the franchise bounced back in style in the 2024 edition after adding the likes of Pat Cummins and Travis Head to the roster. They finished second in the table and reached the final, which they lost to Kolkata Knight Riders.
